What Indeed are Dedicated Hosting Servers?

When we speak of web hosting servers, there are three basic categories - web hosting servers, VPS (private virtual hosting servers) and dedicated hosting. Shared web servers accommodate multiple clients and so the resources per hosting account are restricted, VPS hosting give you more configuration freedom, but also influence other private virtual web hosting servers on the hardware node if used imprudently, and dedicated hosting servers give you the option to perform everything you prefer without interfering with anyone else.

Why would you need a dedicated hosting servers?

Dedicated hosting servers are traditionally much more high-priced than shared hosting web servers or VPS servers. Why would anyone, then, want to use them? The explanation is pretty simple. If your corporation has a regularly visited web page, or just has very explicit server setup requirements, the smartest choice would be a dedicated hosting servers. For someone who is inclined to invest in security and reliability, the bigger price is not a problem. You have complete root access and can use 100% of the web server's system resources without anyone else availing of these resources and meddling with your web sites.

Hardware specifications

Most web hosting corporations, including us at w3workplace, offer several different hardware configurations you can choose from on the basis of your necessities. The hardware configurations offer different types of microprocessors, a different amount of cores, different RAM and server hard disk drive sizes and different monthly bandwidth usage quotas. You can pick a hosting CP, which is useful software if you want to use the dedicated hosting servers for hosting purposes only and choose not to resort to a Secure Shell console for all the modifications you will be making. We offer three sorts of web hosting Control Panel software - Hepsia, DirectAdmin and cPanel.

The web hosting CP of your choosing

If you are a self-reliant Linux OS user (our dedicated hosting servers are running on Linux or other Unix-based OSs), you could manage your dedicated hosting through a Secure Shell connection only. That, though, could be inconvenient, especially if you wish to give full server root access to someone else who has less technical skills than yourself. This is why having hosting CP software installed is a fine idea. The Hepsia hosting Control Panel software that we provide does not give you complete root-level access and is chiefly appropriate for somebody who has plenty of web pages that consume lots of resources, but would rather administer the online portals, databases and email accounts through an easy-to-use Control Panel. The DirectAdmin and cPanel hosting CPs, on the other hand, give you complete root-level access and have three access levels - root, reseller and user. If you plan to resell hosting packages rather than utilizing the dedicated hosting servers only for yourself, you should select one of these two.

Web server monitoring and backup services

Last but not least, there is the issue of monitoring the dedicated hosting servers and of backing it up. In the event of a problem with your dedicated server, like a non-responsive Apache or a network outage, it is advisable to have some kind of monitoring platform enabled. Here at w3workplace the system administrators monitor all dedicated hosting servers for ping timeouts, and, if you order a Managed Services upgrade, they monitor the individual services on the dedicated hosting servers as well. Backups are also a bonus option - the web hosting distributor offers you data backups on our own backup web servers. You could pick a type of RAID that would permit you to have the very same data on two hard disk drives as a protective measure in the event of a server hard disk drive failure, or in case someone whom you have ranted full server root privileges erases something by accident.
